About the PGF

What is the Postgraduate Forum (PGF)?

The PGF offers young (German) scholars in the field of American Studies a forum to present current research projects as work in progress. We welcome contributions from various disciplines focusing on the study of American cultures and literatures. The forum is designed to exchange information on current research and to network with other junior scholars. It is part of the German Association for American Studies (GAAS).

The PGF conference is an annual event which is hosted by doctoral students from a different German university each fall. Accordingly, the local organizers function as representatives of the forum for one year. Each PGF-Team also hosts a lunch, a workshop, and a members meeting at the annual conference of the GAAS. Moreover, the organizers function as guest editors of a COPAS issue that publishes selected contributions from the annual PGF conference.

The PGF’s very own Journal: COPAS

The peer-reviewed online journal Current Objectives of Postgraduate American Studies (COPAS) was launched in 2000 as a result of the 1999 PGF conference in Regensburg. Including the latest issue following the PGF in Mainz, COPAS can look back on seventeen issues, each featuring two to thirteen articles by aspiring American Studies scholars. Currently, the journal is edited by Nathalie Aghoro, Katharina Fackler, Johanna Heil, Sascha Pöhlmann, and Klara Stephanie Szlezák. The journal is (still) located at the chair of American Studies at the University of Regensburg. For more information, please consult the COPAS website.

The PGF in the Past

The very first PGF conference took place in 1989 at the Freie Universität Berlin and we thus have the honor to host the 26th postgraduate conference this year.
